It has been announced that Revitalize Downtown Stayton is the recipient of a $200,00 Main Street Revitalization Grant from the State of Oregon. This project is funded in part by the State Historic Preservation Office, Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
During the Oregon Main Street Refresh process RDS has been participating in for the past year, the 300 Block of N. Third Avenue was identified as a priority for this grant. This block was identified in particular because it is a central block of Historic Downtown Stayton, has buildings significant to the community such as the City Hall, Police Dept, Star Cinema, and major retail space. All of the property owners were already involved in improvement projects, and had the means to provide the required financial match. This grant will bring seven buildings mostly to exterior completion.
RDS wrote and received a grant from Marion County Econimic Development to hire an architect to complete design work on this block. Working closely with the building owners, the architect and RDS developed a cohesive, historically correct design for the Rehabilitation. The grant will allow this significant work to proceed, with the hope that it will spark further revitalization efforts in Historic Downtown.
RDS will supervise the project and ensure compliance with State requirements per the grant. Work will begin in late May once contracts are signed and all building owners hope to have work completed by the end of 2019.
